Lewis Barr

Joint Founding Director / Senior Building Surveyor / Project Manager

Having started his professional career in 2008, Lewis is an experienced Senior Building Surveyor and Project Manager. In this time he has primarily completed work for building consultancies offering professional services to the education sector, giving him a firm understanding of the requirements affecting this industry.

Since 2013, Lewis has spearheaded numerous funding opportunities for schools, academies, MATs and more across the UK, securing and delivering over £100m for clients during his career to date.

Adam Bryan

Joint Founding Director / Senior Building Surveyor / Project Manager

Adam began his surveying career within the education sector in 1997, becoming a Chartered Building Surveyor in 2005. In this time he has acquired a wealth of knowledge in the education, healthcare and commercial sectors, including a senior role providing estates support for a London NHS Trust, managing various premises across multiple sites.

Adam’s focus has now shifted to education, providing his clients with core building surveying advice on the condition of premises, their maintenance needs and proposed capital expenditure. His strong project management skills play a key role in turning this guidance into successful developments.

Ryan Motley

Director / Senior Building Surveyor / Project Manager

Ryan is a highly motivated and enthusiastic Senior Building Surveyor with a broad range of experience in both Project Management and Surveying. During his career, Ryan has worked within a number of sectors in the property and construction industry including commercial, retail, residential and educational markets.

This has provided Ryan with a wealth of extensive knowledge, with experience in project management and acting as Employer’s Agent/ Contract Administrator on a wide range of new build and refurbishment schemes from conception to completion. Ryan’s expertise also includes core building surveying, with knowledge in defect investigation, managing planned maintenance inspections, schedule of conditions and refurbishment and reactive works programmes for various types of Clients. 

Peter Winch

Senior Building Surveyor

Peter completed his masters degree in 2000 and is a Senior Building Surveyor here at AEC.

Peter specialises in design, project management and contract administration of refurbishment and new-build schemes for public sector, education, commercial and private clients. Peter has specific expertise in securing funding and the delivery of education projects as well as key skills in building pathology and feasibility report writing.

Peter, is now focusing on his APC towards becoming a Chartered Surveyor.

Barry O’Hare

Senior Building Surveyor

Barry is a Chartered Surveyor who joined AEC in May 2021, bringing with him extensive experience in the private sector - acting as Project Manager, Employers Agent and Contract Administrator on numerous schemes across London and the surrounding areas. 

During his career, Barry has managed development schemes involving residential, commercial, retail and industrial and has extensive experience with refurbishment and adaptation schemes.

Barry brings over 20 years of experience in construction and surveying to our project management team where he is focussing on education, providing clients with expert advice and ensuring that projects are delivered to the highest standards and professionalism.

Craig Shaw

Senior Building Surveyor

Craig is an experienced Building Surveyor, having begun his career in 2013 working for a Local Authority and joining AEC in June 2021.

During this time, Craig was responsible for the undertaking of core building surveying functions such as: condition surveys; project management; statutory compliance checks; Party Wall related duties; and defect analysis inspections. Craig completed his bachelor’s degree in building surveying in 2020 before becoming a Chartered Building Surveyor in December 2021.

Craig now oversees a wide range of projects within the education sector, acting in both Contract Administrator and Employers Agent capacities. Craig also draws on his previous experience, to offer a residential surveying service to clients when necessary.

Craig considers himself to be a people person and strives to create and maintain strong working relationships with his clients.

Jack Haine

Senior Building Surveyor

Following an impressive career spanning both Building Surveying and Project Management, Jack joined the Professional Team here at AEC in January 2024.

Possessing a wealth of expertise, Jack brings a deep well of knowledge and experience in building surveying, project management, contract administration, specifications, and tendering. His extensive portfolio encompasses diverse projects across commercial, educational, residential, and ecclesiastic sectors.

Marlene Martins

Senior Project Manager / Chartered Architect

Having started her professional career in 2014, Marlene is a qualified, experienced RIBA Architect and Interior Designer. Having delivered countless bespoke, high-end residential and commercial projects domestically and overseas, Marlene has joined AEC as a Project Manager.

Marlene offers a wealth of transferable skills as an addition to AEC, specialising in contract administration, procurement and delivery of projects within the education sector.

Marlene focuses on bringing a project to life, ensuring clients get the most out of the process from inception to handover and provides a keen eye for detail whilst ensuring clients needs, professionalism and expectations are met.

Chris Barker

Project Manager / Building Surveyor

Graduated from university in 2005 with an honour’s degree in Building Surveying, Chris has worked for various property consultancies focusing on Building Surveying, Project Management, and Property Management specialisms.

Chris has developed over 25 years of property and construction experience within both public and private sectors.  This includes design, construction, and project management of residential, commercial, industrial, educational, and public building projects.  Examples of Chris’s projects include new build, extensions, refurbishment, change of use, planned and reactive maintenance, in addition to professional building surveying and project management responsibilities.

Chris has also worked as a Property Manager managing the maintenance and improvement work for a portfolio of estate buildings.  During this time, his projects were recognised for their environmental awareness with one project winning a regional award.

Chris is also currently working toward becoming a Chartered Building Surveyor.

Matt Murphy

Assistant Project Manager

Matt began his career in construction as a Building Surveyor after graduating from the University of Greenwich with a Property Development and Management Degree. He then took on further study to complete a Master’s Degree in Construction Project Management from the University of Greenwich and has over 4 years of experience in delivering projects in a wide range of sectors including the education and residential sector. Matt has extensive experience in Contract Administration as an Employers Agent.

Since joining AEC, Matt now works closely with Senior Surveyors and Project Managers to deliver a variety of projects to a high standard for all clients and further improve his knowledge within the industry. Matt is an aspiring Chartered Project Manager who is currently enrolling in the APC process and working towards being a chartered member of the RICS.

Ryan Mitchell

Building Surveyor / Bid Consultant

In 2018, Ryan graduated from Anglia Ruskin University with a First-Class honours degree in Building Surveying.

Ryan has vast experience in securing numerous projects for schools through a variety of funding streams, including the Condition Improvement Funding (CIF) and Urgent Capital Support (UCS).

Since joining AEC, Ryan has worked closely with the Project Management team where he has obtained further first-hand surveying experience and is looking to continue this career path.

Lynden Pigram

Building Surveyor

Lynden graduated from South Bank University with an honors degree in Building Surveying. Prior to joining AEC, Lynden gained vast experience as a Principal Designer and Project Manager within the residential and commercial sectors; working for a variety of clients including private homeowners, religious organisations, and commercial developers.

Since joining AEC, Lynden has worked closely with senior surveyors and contractors to further develop and expand his knowledge as a surveyor and project manager. Lynden is currently undertaking his APC and working toward becoming a chartered Surveyor.

Michael Smith

Building Surveyor

Michael began his surveying career as a Degree Apprentice in Building Surveying. He graduated from Anglia Ruskin University with a First Class Honours Degree and has over 5 year’s experience in delivering projects in the education and residential sector. Michael also has experience in conducting and delivering surveys from Home Buyers Surveys through to Asset Management Plans for Academy Trusts.

Since joining AEC, Michael now works closely with Senior Surveyors to deliver a variety of projects to a high standard for all clients and further improve his knowledge within the industry. Michael is an Aspiring Chartered Surveyor who is currently completing the APC process to work towards this.

Georgia Dear

Building Surveyor

Georgia began her professional career as a building surveying degree apprentice and went on to graduate from Anglia Ruskin University with a first-class honour’s degree. Georgia has over 5 years’ experience securing and delivering CIF, VASCA and self-funded projects within the education sector.

Georgia continues to focus her skills on project management and has experience working as both contract administrator and employer’s agent for various types of projects.

Since joining AEC, Georgia has been working closely with senior surveyors and project managers to deliver a variety of projects to a high standard, this has also assisted in further developing her knowledge and skills. Georgia is currently working towards becoming a chartered member of the RICS.

David Clark

Graduate Building Surveyor

David graduated from Anglia Ruskin University with a First-Class honour’s degree in Building Surveying. Prior to joining AEC, he spent a short period of time within a work experience role at Southend Borough Council Building Regulations department.

Since joining AEC in 2020 David has developed project management and contract administrating skills through working closely with the Senior Project Management team where he has obtained first-hand surveying experience and is looking to continue this career path to becoming a chartered building surveyor. During his time at AEC, David has also worked closely with the Senior Architectural team and has become proficient at producing professional design & technical drawings.

Lucy Judd

Apprentice Building Surveyor / Bid Consultant

Lucy’s career began in 2012 working as an Office Secretary / Junior PA for a leading specialist (re)insurance broking partnership after completing an Advanced Secretarial Level 3 Diploma. The majority of her career has been spent working for large Insurance firms within the City of London.

In the early part of 2020, Lucy joined AEC as one of our Bid Consultant’s and has a high success rate of securing funding for schools over the last two years.

Lucy is currently studying at Anglia Ruskin University as an Apprentice Building Surveyor and works closely with the Projects and Building Surveying Teams within the company, alongside continuing her initial role as a Bid Consultant within the Bidding Team.

Giedre Stakaityte

Apprentice Building Surveyor

Giedre joined AEC in May 2022 after finishing her first year of BSc (Hons) Building Surveying course at Anglia Ruskin University (Chelmsford). She joined AEC to kick-start her career by moving onto a Building Surveying Apprenticeship Degree.

Since beginning her employment with AEC, Giedre has collaborated closely with the project management team, where she has had the opportunity to connect with clients and contractors to better understand the projects, acquire crucial knowledge and skills as well as obtaining first-hand surveying experience.

Giedre envisions moving forward and continuing to develop within AEC, working towards her chartership, and succeeding in her profession.

Ronnie Potts

Apprentice Building Surveyor

Ronnie joined AEC in May 2023 after finishing his first year of BSc (Hons) Building Surveying course at Anglia Ruskin University. He joined AEC to begin his career through the Building Surveying Apprenticeship Degree.

Since joining AEC, Ronnie has worked closely with senior Building Surveyors and Project Managers, in which he has obtained crucial knowledge and skills to assist him further within the industry. Ronnie has had the opportunity to collaborate with clients and contractors to acquire first-hand surveying experience.

Ronnie aspires to continue developing at AEC and looks forward to beginning his process towards becoming a chartered surveyor, creating an accomplishing career.
